The Grandes Jorasses

The North face of Grandes Jorasses is a wall that has fascinated generations of alpinists. Alpine history has been etched upon the immense face of rock and ice by generations of mountaineers. It is 1200m high. Mighty spurs of dark granite descend from the 4 peaks that make up the watershed ridge. Its distinct prow like pillars stand out against the deep couloirs of black ice, enhancing the imposing look of the wall. Invisible from the bottom of the valley, the wall stands alone at the start of the Leschaux glacier.
