Itinerary
Arrival in Chamonix
We start by meeting at the Chamonix Experience office the night before the course. You will meet your Chamex mountain guide and the other members of your off-piste group. ` We will check the snow conditions and the weather forecast together, to decide the best place to go skiing in the morning. Each day will be planned around the latest weather conditions to give you the best chance off-piste experience. Your Chamex mountain guide will check your equipment and answer any questions that you might have. Please take a look at the Equipment tab to see what you will need and contact us if there is anything that you don’t have. The itinerary will change according to the weather and snow conditions but here is a possible itinerary for the 3 days:
Day 1 – Les Grands Montets
We head up to the Argentiere end of the Chamonix Valley and take the lift up to Les Grands Montets. Your mountain guide will spend a little time assessing your ski level and seeing what you are capable of on different types of snow, before running through the basics of mountain saftey and avalanche awaress. The rest of the day will be spent playing in the fantastic powder bowls and long descents of Les Grands Montets; if you’re lucky your guide might even take you into the Magic Forest… If conditions are good we’ll end the day with a classic Chamonix off-piste descent; skiing down all the way from Les Grands Montets to the Mer de Glace via the famous “Pas de chèvre” route.
Day 2 – Aiguille du Midi & Vallee Blanche
Today we take the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to 3842m, where we have a multitude of options. We could ski the Pré du Rocher from the Plan de l’Aiguille station, where we’ll find steep couloirs hidden amongst the trees. Or we can ski one of the various routes down the legendary Vallee Blanche – the Gros Rognon perhaps, or the Petit Plan de l’Envers. Whichever one we take you’ll be surrounded by the towering peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif, bottomless crevasses and stunning ice falls.
Day 3 – Italy & Glacier Toule
Today we cross over to the Italian side of Mont Blanc via the Glacier Toule. Here you’ll find excellent off-piste terrain as well as spectacular views and wonderful Italian coffee! We’ll end our day by skiing the Vallée Noire back down to Chamonix, where we can celebrate our trip with a bit of apres-ski in one of the many lively bars.
